Troika Sky Dining

Troika 2Our SATC (Sex And The City) group plus company celebrated three birthdays in one at Troika Sky Dining, KLCC. We are an economical lot, don’t you agree?

Within its premises are three fine dining restaurants (Cantaloupe, Fuego, Strato) and two bars (Claret, Coppersmith). Floor-to-ceiling windows show the picturesque city centre skyline, particularly Petronas Twin Towers and KL Tower.

I regret forgetting to take photos of the view after navigating that wobbly spiral staircase up and down in heels. Damn acrophobia. I was literally and figuratively shaken.

We had dinner at Strato, which serves Italian food. Minimum spend is RM80 per head, which is RM20 less than at Fuego. There are two booking times: 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM. Ours was the latter.

First, the drinks. Most ordered gin, namely Hendrick’s and Monkey 47 (RM36 each). The exception is a mocktail called Daisy From Sardinia, which is a mix of bergamot, thyme honey, kumquat, pomelo soda, and Italian herb garden (RM26).

Second, the food. Some of us ordered Wagyu Beef Cheek Tortellini, with sage brown butter and fried onions (RM55).

Others opted for Barramundi Al Cartoccio, containing clam, mussels, prawn, zucchini, carrots, and almond ancho chilli oil (RM65).

One chose Hokkaido Scallop & Smoked Eel Linguini in tapenade tomato sauce (RM65).

Another went for seafood pizza, comprised of prawn, squid, clam, sea bass, tomato tapenade, and seafood béchamel sauce (RM55). Afterwards, we ordered another type of pizza, with beef prosciutto, arugula, and pesto (RM40).

Now, for the food review. Let me state beforehand that the shared experience of trying out new restaurants, or dining at preferred establishments, with people who matter brings me great pleasure. In fact, it is one of my family’s favourite activities, dating back from childhood.

It is for this reason that I have always considered where and what I eat as secondary to the company I am with.

“Better a small serving of vegetables with love than a fattened calf with hatred.” ~ Proverbs 15:17 [NIV]

Having said that, I think the food at Strato is good enough. Not exceptional, for I have tasted better elsewhere, but it is decent. Every dish is presented well. Service personnel are attentive.
